In Vitro Propagation of Some Important Plants

Tarek Ahmed Abd-EI Wahab;

Abstract

Attention is being paid to the cultivation of medicinal plants which have high economic value on the inte•mational market such as; Solenostemma arghel (Del.) Hayne, Cymbopogon proximus (Hochst. Ex A. Rich.) and Salvadora persica L, which is required in order to achieve sustainable utilization of these resources and to avoid over exploitation of
the plants. Some of which are already on the list of threatened plants in

Egypt.

1. Solenostemma arghel

In vitro propagation was established using juvenile plant material, seedlings which germinated from seed on agar medium, after sterilizing seeds with Clorox (4% sodium bypchlorite) 100% for 25 minutes, Shoot tip were excised and used as explant, during (Establishment stage); shoot tips were excised from seedlings of different age, on MS medium + BA (2
I
& 4 mg/1), shoots tip of age 5 weeks was the most sui table seedlings age which gives maximum developed shoot tip (80 % on BA 2 mg/1 and 100
% on BA 4mg/l), and the maximum shoots per explant (8.75 sh/ex. with

BA 2 mg/1 and 10.8 sh/ex. With BA 4mg/l). During multiplication stage; shoots were recultured on MS medium + BA 4 mg/1 which result in average increment of shoots (133 shoots, 1 0.23 shoots /explant) and during rooting stage, maximum rooting percentage (92,86 %) was recorded with MS medium + NAA : IBA : BA 2 : 2 0.25 mg/1., the
