Abstract

The relationship between low ABI and acute ischemia stroke has many perspectives, one of which prevalence of low ABI in patients of acute stroke compared to general population. So a hospital based study conducted aiming to study correlation between low ABI in ischemic stroke, risk factors (DM, HTN, smoking and dyslipidemia) also with severity of stroke.
There were two groups a patients group and control group. Patients group included 100 patients with acute stroke with DM, HTN, smoking and dyslipidemia, control group included 100 individuals without stroke with same previous risk factors, both groups was matched in age and sex. All had history taking, clinical examination and underwent measurement of ABI.
Both groups compared to each others with no statistical significance in prevalence of low ABI, smoking, dyslipidemia and severity of stroke with low ABI. However there was significant association between low ABI, DM and HTN. Therefore, no correlation between low ABI, smoking, dyslipidemia and severity of stroke. On the other hand there is significant correlation between low ABI, DM and HTN as when they increased the ABI decreased.
