Abstract


The aim of the present work is to investigate the prevalence of blood parasites of small ruminants and to illustrate the more specific methods of diagnosis for blood parasites and identify ixodid ticks as a vector on the host. Moreover, the effect of parasitic infection on animal health and finally, using the best control for tick vector and treatment for infected animals.




• -The incidence of Babesia ovis in sheep by using blood film examination, IFAT and ELISA was 29.8%, 79.5% and 85.0% respectively.




• . The peak of incidence of Babesia ovis in sheep was achieved in summer season 37.5%, 86.5% and 90.7% by using blood film examination, IFAT and ELISA respectively.


• The incidence of Babesia ovis in goats by using blood film examination, IFAT and ELISA was 23.6%, 61.5% and 84.8% respectively.


• The peak of incidence of Babesia ovis in goats was achieved in summer season 25.2%, 66.7% and 87.8% by using blood film examination, IFAT and ELISA respectively.




* From the pervious data, it was clear that the ELISA test was more sensitive than both IFA and blood film examination.


• The incidence of Theileria ovis infection in sheep and goats was 34.2% and 42.3% respectively.
