Influence of Stent Boost Imaging Guided Percutaneous Coronary Intervention on Proper Stent Expansion
Shahin Raafat Shahin;
Abstract
SUMMARY
ptimum stent deployment is an important factor in
determining the outcome of stent implantation but stent
implantation in the coronary arteries presents certain problems
in conventional two-dimensional angiography. In addition to
the need for high temporal resolution in order to visualize a
rapidly moving structure it is difficult to determine the
dimensions of the vessel lumen and the stent from a twodimensional
image.
Stent Boost (philips Medical Systms Best the
Netherlands) is a recently introduced interventional tool that
improves the visualization and measurement of intracoronary
stent in X-ray angiography making it easier to achieve optimum
and complete stent deployment. The availability of this
information during the angiography procedure allow clinicians
to take corrective action where necessary potentially
eliminating the need for additional procedures.
The current study aimed to assess the influence of
stentBoost imaging technique after percutaneous coronary
intervention on proper stent expansion &hence the clinical
outcome.

Summary
134
The study was conducted on 147 patients who came to
the coronary cath lab, to do coronary angiography followed by
percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) if needed, all the
patients performed PCI, stent Boost was done for all of them
after stenting.3)the study matched 116 males (78.9%), and 31
females (21.1%).
We included all patients performed PCI were subjected
to stent Boost, compared to standard angiography.
Exclusion of any patients had an evidence of
contraindication to cardiac catheterization like severe
hypertension,recent neurological defecit, aortic dissection.
All patients were subjected to the following:
1. Proper history taking.
2. Complete physical examination.
3. 12 leads surface ECG.
4. Laboratory investigations include kidney functions (blood
urea, serum creatinine), hepatitis markers (HBsAg, HCVAb)
liver enzymes (ALT, AST), complete blood picture.
