Abstract


This study was carried out on 50 patients with oesphgeal
. due to portal hypertension of schistosoma(

hepatic fibrosis . ft was conducted to determine the presence and incidence of endoscopic and histopathological changes in the duodenum of patients with potial hypertension and to correlate these changes with that occuring in the stomach and with liver dysfunction.



All patients were submitted to thorough history taking, full clinical examination, necessary laboratory investigations, abdominal ultrasonography, endoscopic examination and histopathological examination for endoscopic gastric and duodenal biopsies .
By endoscopic examination gastropathy was encountered in 41 patients (82%) and duodenopathy in 35 patients (70%) .
