Abstract


Stroke is a sudden neurological incident related to impaired cerebral blood supply which may caused by hemorrhage, embolism or thrombosis resulting in ischemia to the brain. Stroke is more prevalent in elderly population because of atherosclerosis and hypertension. Stroke also occurs in youn•ger patient as result of aneurysm, hypertension, and the use of some birth control pills and drug abuse. The clinical manifestation of stroke vary depending on the area of the brain affected stroke in the right hemisphere typically causes aphasia and dysarthria, left sided paralysis, or paresis, Apraxia, impaim1ent judgment increased emotional liability. A stroke in left hemisphere can cause receptive or expressive aphasia, dysarthria, right side paralysis and/ or paresis, sensory loss and homonymous hemianposia. Stroke patient need extensive nursing care, this nursing care focus on acute care maintenance of vital function, prevention of complication and the initiation of rehabilitation in the hospital.
