A BIOCHEMICAL AND TOXICOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF SOME PLANT EXTRACTS ON THE BLACK CUT WORM AGROTIS IPSILON (HUFN) (LEPIDOPTERA: NOCTUIDAE)
Soad Mohamed Mohamed Osman;
Abstract
l11is study was planned to assess the efficiency of ce1tain plant extracts against 4th instar la•vae of A. ipsi/on. For this purposes, twelve different plants (A. maritima, R. officina/is, C. longus, G. giobra, C. tonga,
4. herb alba, L. termis, C. ambrosioides, C. acutigolia T. vulgaris, Z.
oj}icinale and A. arabica) were extracted by solvents of increasing polarity (petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone and ethyl alcohol), then bioassayed against the tested insect by feeding and contact methods. The promising extracts, A. maritima (chloroform) in feeding method and L. tennis (acetone) in contact method were subjected to further study. Total protein nnd lipid content of homogenated laivae of 4th instar larvae were also determined. Moreover. isolation and identification of active ingredients of A. maritima in chloroform and acetone were also attempted.
