Abstract
The present study was conducted at the Poultry Fann of the Department of Poultry Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Menofiya University Shibin EL-Kom. The aim of the investigation was to study the effect of exposing hatching eggs to different coloured light dwing incubation period on some economic traits in Japanese quails.
The study comprised two seasons; 1994-1995 and 1995-1996.
The results and conclusions can be summarized as follows:
- Hatchability percentages of eggs treated with continuous white, red light and discontinuous white light, were lower than tJ1at incubated in dark witJ1in each treatment.
2 - Eggs exposed to continuous blue light had higher hatchability tJum that in the dark (i.. 38% vs. 33.8% ).
3 - It was clear that continuous white, red and blue light accelerated chick hatching.
4 - Prolonged egg storage decreased hatchability of eggs treated with eitJ1er dark or continuous red light dwing incubation. On tJ1e otJ1er hand, using continuous blue and white lights dwing incubation decreased the deteriorative effects of egg storing on hatchability.
