Abstract
Matrix Metatloproteinases (MMPs) are thought to phl.y ari
important role in the pathogenesis of D.N.
In this study, MMP-1 was significantly lower in patients with
D.N. compared to patients without D.N.
47.1% of patients with uncontrolled diabetes and elevated MMP-1 have proteinuria & 17.6% have hypertension. Also, the mean serum levels ofMMP-2 show no statistical significance when comparing between patients with nephropathy and those without nephropathy.
In conclusion , The high MMP-1 serum levels may indicate early development ofD.N.
