Leptin and delayed puberty in obese patients and non obese patients

Abstract


This clinical thesis was done to evaluate the relationship between leptin and delayed puberty in both non obese girls and boys.

This study was conducted on 60 subjects, 20 male patients with delayed puberty, 10 of which were obese and
I 0 were non obese. Twenty female patients with delayed
puberty, 10 of which were obese and 10 were non obese. Twenty healthy subjects as controls, 10 of which were males
(5 were obese and 5 were non obese), 10 were females (5 were obese and 5 were non obese).

The patients included in this study were complaining from isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, serum leptin and basal insulin were measured for all groups. The results showed that both serum leptin and basal insulin were significantly lower in patients with delayed puberty in all groups when compared with their matching controls. There was highly positive correlation between serum Ieptin and serum basal insulin in all groups, there was no significant correlation between serum Ieptin and sex hormones.
