REFLUX A STUDY OF SERUM lEVElS OF NITRIC OXIDE AND VASOACTIVE INTESTINA L llPOYPEPTIDE IN PATIENTS WITH GASTROESOPHAGEAL DISEASE

Abstract
The current study was carried out on selected 50 patients with GERD (30 males, 20 females) and I 0 healthy controls (6 males, 4 females). The patients were divided into five groups according to (Savmy and Miller classification 1984). The mean age of patients' groups was 39.6±9.8 years, their age ranged from 22-55 years. In the controls, the mean age 28.4±8.3 years, their age range from 2 I -50 years.
All members of this study were subjected to: history taking, full clinical and laboratory investigations including, (CBC, ESR, AST, ALT, T. Billirbin, serum creatinin, blood urea nitrogen, T. cholesterol, LDL, HDL, TG, urine, stool examination, pregnancy test, and pelvi-abdominal ultrasonography, serum NO and VIP levels assay, only for patient's group, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or 24 hours ambulatory pH monitoring for those with normal upper endoscopy were done.
