Abstract
According the National Alliance of Health Information Technology [NAHITJ (2008) “an electronic medical record (EMR) of health-related information on an individual that can be created, gathered, managed, and consulted by authorized clinicians and staff within one health care organization”. An EMR characteristically contains lists of patient problems, medications, allergies, as well as health maintenance data, progress notes, various test results, and ordering functions (Bates et aL, 2003). As health care organizations progress into the twenty-first century, the interest and implementation of EMR has grown* significantly (Carroll et aL, 2007).
