Abstract


There are issues in the field of Eng­ lish language teaching that still need to be researched. One of these issues is oral fluency, a declared target in all foreign language teaching programmes which actual­ ly receives little attention in the De­ partment of English, College of Arts, Uni­ versity of Aden.

This research aims to provide a tea­ ching procedure for improving fluency in speaking for a group of students from the University of Aden.

The approach is experimentally-based where the researcher tries to investigate the various defects of the existing Spoken English Syllabus and the other courses of the whole programme in the second year adopted by the Department of English. The researcher also tries to examine the stu­ dents' level of oral fluency before and after applying the suggested procedure to evaluate its use .


The first chapter introduces the pro­ blem and its setting and the aims of the research. The present situation is sur­ veyed and followed by a discussion of the present Spoken English Syllabus. The pre­ sent method of teaching the syllabus and the other courses in the second year, English Department are also presented.
