Clinical and laboratory investigation of Capillaria sis philippinensis infection in Beni suief governorate,

Mona Ibrahim Ali;

Abstract

Capillariasis philippinensis is considered a zoonotic disease of
migratory fish-eating birds. Fish is the intermediate host. Human
infection occurs accidentally. It is a parasite of the small intestine that
causes a severe enteropathy and at times death in cases of delayed
diagnosis or inappropriate treatment. Cases of human infection by C.
philippinensisappear to be spreading geographically. It was first reported
in 1963 in the Northern Philippines and subsequently in the surrounding
areas. It was recorded in Egypt in 1989. Infection causes chronic diarrhea
associated with abdominal pain, edema, and severe weight loss. A
definitive diagnosis of gastrointestinal capillariasis was made by
identifying eggs, larvae and / or adult stages in the stool. All cases
recover to health after receiving the appropriate treatment.
