Flaviviridae RNA in alleged Hepatitis C Virus infections
Eman Ahmed Tolba El-Seid;
Abstract
HCV is a significant global health problem and in Egypt it is hJerendemic. Flaviviridae virus family consists of three genera:
'
I
Flavivirus genus, Pestivirus genus and the last genus is the hepatitis C
virus. Possible cross-reactivity of flaviviral antibodies has been proposed.
Flaviviridae RNA may be present in alleged HCV infected patients.
Our results showed that 6.4% of our cases had high ALT levels. The positivity of HCV antibodies in our study was found to be 13.6%. HCRNA as detected by two different protocols ofRT-PCR was found
to be 9.3%. Our sequencing results revealed that all the obtained
sequences, whether consensus or specific (except for one consensus sample) were genuine HCV sequences, genotype 4a whereas the putative pestivirus sequences were not present.
