INFLUENCE OF NITROUS OXIDE INJECTION ON IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF. CNG CONVERTED GASOLINE ENGINES

Abstract

The conversion of automotive vehicles to operate with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel has become one of the modem trends for solving the problem of air pollution in addition to its economical advantages. However, the conversion process is usually associated with some drawbacks such as performance deterioration manifested through a drop in maximum power and torque by about 15 up to 20%. This affects the converted vehicle cruising ability and might cause traffic problems in the case of the need for a surge of power in critical situations. Therefore, the current research introduces an experimental and analyticaL study for the effect of adding nitrous oxide(N2O) to CNG on engine performance to overcome this problem.
