Abstract


Thediscovery of LA has enabled modren dentistry to be performed almost painlessly. Although the anesthetic effect can lead to a relatively painless dental procedure, the delivery of local anesthetic solution and the needle puncturing the mucousa can be uncomfortable. There is aconstant search for ways to avoid the invasive and often painful nature of the injection, and to find a more pleasant means of producing LA before dental procedures. A CCLADS has been developed as a possible solution to reduce the pain related to the local anesthetic injection.
The current study was performed to evaluate and compare the CCLADS with the conventionalsyringeas regarding pain perception and pain disruptive behavior and fear during injection and during pulpotomy treatment procedures achieved for primary maxillary molars.
Twenty healthy children ranging in age between 5 to 8 years were included in this study. All children were selected based on their need for conservative dentistry (vital pulpotomy in two maxillary primary molars) on both sides requiring LA. Patients served as their own control. They were randomly assigned to receive either injection using the CCLADS or conventional syringe during the first visit while the other injection technique was delayed for the second visit one week later.
