ROLE OF UTERINE ARTERY EMBOLIZATION IN THE TREATMENT OF UTERINE FIBROID

Abstract


The aim of this study is to mastering the technique of uterine artery embolization (UAE), to analyze the technical features of the procedure and to evaluate the effectiveness of this method as a primary treatment of uterine leiomyomas.
Uterine leiomyomas is common between the age of 35 years and

49 years and considered the commonest benign tumor of the female genital tract.
Thirty patients were included in this study, all had symptomatic uterine leiomyomas as diagnosed in the gynecology and obstetric department by clinical and pelvic US examination and attributed their symptoms only to the leiomyomas,. •
The age of the patients ranged between 25 and 66 years, The commonest presenting symptom in this study was excessive menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) which was described by all patients, followed by pelvic pain in 14 patients, lower abdominal swelling in 12 patients and infertility in 5 patients, 2 patients had signs of heart failure • from excessive uterine bleeding (anemic heart failure).
