EFFECTS OF GLIMEPIRIDE (AMARYL) ON BIOGENIC AM.INES CONTENT IN DIFFERENT AREAS IN THE BRAIN OF ADULT DIABETIC MALE ALBINO MICE/RATS
AISHA OMAR EL-KADY;
Abstract
Glimepridie is a sulfonylurea derivative that is effectively decreases blood glucose level via inhibition of KATP channels. lt provides good control of blood glucose and play a role in delay or prevention of diabetic complications.
The present work was designated in induction of experimental diabetes mellitus in rats by streptozotocin and study its effect on fasting blood glucose levels, liver enzymes (aspartate-aminotransferase AST and alanine aminotransferase, ALT) and kidney functions (urea and creatinine). Also to study the effect of streptozotocin induced diabetes on the chemical neurotransmitters (norepinephrin, serotonine, dopamine and GABA), m different brain areas, (cerebral cortex, thalamus/ hypothalamus, mid brain and cerebellum). Moreover to study the effect of glimepiride and Vit. E separately and concomittantly on the-previous parameters.
In the present work, we used young male albino rats of uniform strain, weighing from 200-250 gm, they were divided into 5 groups: Group I: Control group.
Group 2: Diabetic group.
Group 3,4,5: Diabetic rats treated with glimepride, vitamin E, separately and concomitantly.
