Antibacterial Evaluation and Chemical Analysis of Gutta Percha Points Containing Root Canal Medicaments

Amal Mahmoud Abdel Razak;

Abstract

Bacteria and their products play a major role in initiation and propagation of pulpo-periapical pathosis. Root canal infections are commonly caused by a polymicrobial flora that includes facultative d obligatory anaerobic bacteria (t30)_ Studies had reported that chemomechanical preparation was effective in reducing the numbers of
bacteria in the canals. However, bacteria might remain viable after rqot canal
I
preparation, multiplying in the periods between the treatment, and w en they

do so, therapy was considerably less successful. Thus, the use of in canal medicaments help to eliminate bacteria before the canal was finally

Ca (OHh had been recommended for use as intracanal mediccr-ent. Other disinfectants like the halogen-releasing sodium hypochlorite, camphorated parachlorophenol, organic iodine compounds, or the biguanide
chlorhexidine (CHL) were alternatives as irrigants or temporary root canal medications .

Ca (OHh had been recommended for use as intracanal medi ent based on its antibacterial property, they inactivate bacterial lipopolysaccharide, so reducing the local inflammatory response, pr9mote
tissue dissolution, and produce an alkalizing osteogenic environment .
