ONE-YEAR FOLLOW-UP OF NON SURGICAL INTERVENTIONAL CORONARY REVASCULARIZATION

Abstract

Despite considerable technical improvement in coronary balloon angioplasty, the restenosis process remains the major limitation of this interventional . technique. As new alternative devices for coronary angioplasty become available, appropriate device selection for specific lesion subsets becomes an increasing significant and complex issue. While the incidences of restenosis and major cardiac events following DCA had been found to be comparable to their incidences following PTCA, implantation of intracoronary stents with high pressure dilation and the combined use of asprin and ticlopidine for one month has dramatically decreased both the incidence of restenosis and subsequent late adverse
cardiac events.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the initial results, the short tenn, as well as the long tenn outcomes ofPTCA, DCA, and stenting during a follow-up period of twelve months.

From May 1995 through November 1997, 51 patients underwent one or in some of them two of the following percutaneous coronary revascularization modalities: PTCA, stenting, and DCA.

PTCA alone was attempted in 22 patients (23 lesions) and stenting alone following predilatation by PTCA. was attempted in 21 patients (23 lesions). PTCA for one lesion and stenting for another was the plan for 4 patients (8 lesions). DCA was attempted in 4 patients (4 lesions).
