PROBABILISTIC ANALYSIS FOR SOME STANDBY SYSTEMS
Mostafa Abdel-Aziz Ismail;
Abstract
This thesis is concerned withthe study of the re!aibility for some two-unit standby re
dundant systems from many points of view subject to hardware and human error failures.
An introduction is presented in chapter I in which basic concepts, literature review con
cerning research standying in this thesis and des.cription of the chapter's contents are given.
In chapter {II), a study of a two-unit warm standby system subject to hardware and human error failures will be presented. It is considered that all random variable concerning the hardware failure, human error failure and repair times are generally distributed. Using regenerative point technique, explicit expressions for Laplace transform of the reliability function, mean time to system failure, pointwise and steady state availabilities and total gain will be chained. Also some particular cases are discussed. The material of this chapter [16) has been published in " Microelectronics and Reliability Joui:nal " England.
The third chapter deals with the. cost-benefit analysis of a two similar unit standby redundant system subject to hardware, human error failures and imperfect switching device by considering the availability of a single repair facility and using the regenerative point technique several reliability characteristics of a system have been obtained. e.g.
1- Mean time of a system failure.
2- Availability and steady state availability.
3- Expected busy periods.
4- Expected net gain.
Finally some special cases have been presented.
In chapter four, we analyze a two-unit warm standby system with slow switch subject to hardware and human error failures considering that all distributions are exponentials except the repair times distributions are general. Using regenerative point technique in a Markov renewal processes, the following measures of reliability for the system are obtained
1- Transition probabilities and mean sojourn times.
- Mean time to system failure.
3- Probability that the serverman is busy.
