Anesthetics Induced Anaphylaxis
Haytham Hussein Ali Mohammed;
Abstract
n emerging problem of perioperative anaphylaxis is present nowadays despite the great advance in anesthetic medicine.
This anaphylaxis is a reaction to drugs used in anesthesia. All drugs used in anesthesia can lead to anaphylactic shock such as anesthetic agents, muscle relaxants, analgesics.
According to literature muscle relaxants such as Rocuronium are the commonest drugs to cause anaphylaxis while analgesic mainly the opioid sedating such as Fentanyl and anesthetic especially the new one such as Propofol are found to be safe with minimal anaphylactic reaction.
Meta-analysis study done on worldwide patients using pub med and Med-scape data in order compare anaphylaxis in perioperative period that results from the usage of Propofol as anesthetic agent, Rocuronium as Muscle relaxant and Fentanyl as an opioid analgesic
Our study showed that perioperative anaphylaxis was significant with the fentanyl group in comparison to the two other groups Rocuronium and propofol.
This study showed also that the usage of Fentanyl with Propofol and Nitrous oxide anesthetic significantly increase the frequency of perioperative anaphylaxis.
