Hatem Ahmed Abdelhamid Ahmed;

Abstract

This study was divided into two categories; living animal study (LAS) carried out on thirty clinically normal horses of different sexes, breeds, and ages. All these animals were subjected to ultrasonographic examination.This study was designed to divide the EDL into 4 zones; MC/MT, Fetlock, Pastern and Foot. The other was cadaveric study (CAS) performed on three recently euthanized horses from which twelve distal limbs were harvested (6 fore and 6 hind) and used for MRI examination (3 fore and 3 hind) and cross sectional anatomy (3 fore and 3 hind).US images were obtained with linear superficial transducer with frequency ranged (10-18 MHz) while MRI was performed with a high filed 1.5 tesla MRI system.The obtained images from the two different imaging modalities were reviewed and compared with that obtained by cross sectional anatomy views form the same examined parts of EDL.Based on the obtained results from the use of two different modalities aiming to obtain detailed features of EDL; MRI modality gave very promising results in comparison with the ultrasonographic one.
Key words: Equine distal limbs, Imaging, MRI, Ultrasound.
