The use of modern power switching devices, like insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBT 's), in inverter circuits can be unanimou ;ly considered as the dominating trend in the evolution of ac drive systens. These devices are characterized by the relative ease of their control, th ir fast switching times and their compactness.
