Amr Ahmed Abd El-Aal;

Abstract

The choice of bariatric surgical procedure to be performed in each patient based on specific criteria, leads to the best possible results with the fewest complications, maximal improvement of pre xisting comorbid conditions, and good quality oflife.

The selection criteria in the present study were based on evaluation of dietary behavior and eating habits. If the patient had failed at previous supervised short term weight loss attempts, had a tendency towards bulimic or compulsive eating behavior, or had a high consumption of sweets or snacks, the RGBP was the operation of choice. If none of these behaviors were present, then VBG as the option.

Sweet eaters who underwent VBG upon their request showed failure to lose weight as was the case with one of our patients.

Bread eaters who underwent VBG had to know • that inappropriate eating patterns such as consuming high caloric liquid diet and easily dissolvable foods make the operation unsuccessful.
