THE PRESENCE OF MYCOPLASMA SPECIES IN BOVINE SEMEN

Abstract


Thirty nine raw semen samples (12 from cow bulls and 27 from buffalo bulls) were collected. The samples were collected from El-Abbasia and Beni­ Suef artificial insemination (A.l.) centres. Also, thirty four frozen semen
samples•(ll from cow bulls at Beni-Suef A. I. and 23 from buffalo bulls at El-
'
Abbasia A.I. centre) were obtained for this study. In addition to ninety one

preputial swabs were aseptically collected from bulls (31 from 31 cow bulls and 60 from 41 buffalo bulls) at Beni-Suef and El-Abbasia A.l. centres as well as farmer's bulls. The collected samples were examined for the presence of mycoplasmas.



The results can be summarized as follows:

1. Mycoplasma were isolated from raw semen, semen straw and preputial swabs collected from cow bulls used for A.I. at Beni-Suef centre at rates of 91.7%, 0.0 and 100%, respectively.



2. M. bovis, M. alvi and M. arginini were isolated from raw semen collected from cow bulls used for A.l. at Beni-Suef AI. centre at percentages of 33.3%•, 41.7% and 16.7%, respectively.



3. The incidence of mycoplasma isolated from raw semen, semen straw and preputial swabs collected from buffalo bulls used for A.I. at El-Abbasia A.I. centre was 77.8%, 0.0 and 0.0%, respectively.
