Abstract


Sustainability is an intellectual concept that continues to function as guideline or a compass needle for each option concerning each aspect human life that made available by the process of development. It came in the respond to threats to humanity as it was clear that the current configuration of the socio-economic system is inflicting serious damage on the globe.


Sustainability is one of the recent proliferated "buzz words" within architecture. Sustainable Architecture is a provocative vague term that exemplifies the misunderstanding of the essence of both sustainability and architecture. Sustainable Architecture is, then, used as the fashionable attractive justification of the same old process of design.


In retrospect, this research is an attempt to understand the concept of sustainability in respect to architecture. Step by step, as more understanding was acquired, it became increasingly clear that sustainability must be the frame of reference for architecture finding new dimensions for Sustainable Architecture.
