STUDIES ON SOME LEAF MINlNG INSECTS INFESTING CERTAIN VEGETABLE CROPS IN EGYPT

Abstract


The present study included a survey of the vegetable mining insects, associated parasitoids and predators, mining vegetation, and seasonal fluctuations of its populations under field and plastic house conditions, in addition to, prevailing the some meteorological factors, effect of different sowing dates and certain types of intercropping on populations. Also, the relative susceptibility of common cultivars to infestation and efficacy of the recent unconventional methods against these pests were. studied. All experiments were carried out in Giza and Northern Tahreer.

The results obtained could be summarized as follows :

(A) A seventeen species of mining insects belonging to fourteen genera, nine families and three orders, besides two species of the parasitoids under two families and one insect order and six predators from five families and five insect orders, were surveyed, during the period of 1995-1999 seasons, in both two districts.
