Helical High Resolution Computed Tomography In Diagnosis and Staging of Lung Cancer
Mohammed Mahmoud Hamdy;
Abstract
Lw1g cancer is one of the most common world wide cancers in the world as regards both their incidence and mortality. Appropriate treatment is very important and depends on appropriate diagnosis and accurate Staging of the disease. Surgical treatment depends mainly on appropriate diagnosis and early detection of the disease.
This study was done in South Egypt Cancer Institute (SEC!) and Assiut University Hospital between September 2002 to July 2003 to assess the role of helical high resolution CT in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. Plain chest radiography and helical high resolution CT were done for 40 patients with suspected clinical diagnosis of lung cancer; the diagnosis was confirmed pathologically by biopsy either Tru-cut needle under CT guidance or by bronchoscOpy.
The most common affected age was between 60 and 70 years of life and males were affected more than females with a ratio of7:1.
