Eman Youssef Abd Alla Mahmoud;

Abstract

Nocturnal enuresis is a multifactorial disease that no single hypothesis is satisfactory in explaining all cases. It is found in 1 - 5% of adolescents (10 - 15 years old).

This study was conducted on 50 primary enuretic adolescents (10 - 15 years old) taken from Menoufiya University,hospitals outpatient clinics. All the cases were submitted to complete clinical examination and different investigative techniques as urine and stool analysis, plain X-ray for the unnary tract and spine, abdominal ultrasonography and urodynamic studies for evaluation of its role in diagnosis of sphincteric or bladder dysfunction in nocturnal enuresis in adolescents.

Daily bed-wetting was found m 74% of our cases and urinary symptoms in the form of frequency and urgency were found in 58% among them.

Urinary tract infection and spina bifida were detected in

6% and 32% respectively in our cases and were statistically insignificant as etiologic factors in enuresis.

No obstructive uropathy on ultrasonic examination was detected in any of our cases.
