Abstract
urgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most common Healthcare associated Infection (HAI), estimated to account for 18.6% of inpatient HAI. The SSI is the most surveyed and frequent type of HAI in low- and middle-income countries and affects up to one third of patients who have undergone surgical procedure.
While advances over the past several decades have been made in infection control practices, including improved operating room ventilation, sterilization methods, barriers, surgical technique, and availability of antimicrobial prophylaxis, SSIs remain a substantial cause of morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and death.
