Abstract


The aim of the present study was to assess the myocardial perfusion in chronic asthmatic patients to evaluate if these patients are at an increased risk of developing coronary artery disease.

Our study included 2 groups

Group 1: The ashtmatic group: this group included 42 patients with chronic stable asthma (mild to moderate persistent asthma according to the Egyptian guidelines for asthma management, 1999).

Group II: The control group: This group included 15

healthy subjects matched for age and sex,


All patients and control subjects were subjected to the following:
1- Full history taking.

2- Clinical examination.

. 3- Radiological examination.

4- Essential laboratory investigations to exclude co­ existing medical illness (liver and renal function tests complete. blood picture, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, sodium and potassium).
5- Complete lipid profile.

6- Cardiological investigations

- Stress-Rest myocardial perfusion SPECT study
