Abstract
. This study was done on patients with liver cirrhosis with and without encephalopathy using transcranial Doppler showed variable changes in cerebral blood flow according to the degree of liver cirrhosis as follows:
With less severe liver cirrhosis (Child's A and B group) there were decreased in cerebral blood flow anterior (ACA) and increased cerebral blood flow posteriorly (VA).
With more $evere liver cirrhosis (Child's C). There was decreased cerebral flow posteriorly (VA) and impaired
function.
With patient with encephalopathy (group E) there were decreased blood flow in {ACA) and impaired function in (VA)
area.
These cerebral blood flow changes increases with the severity of t)1e liver condition, age, anemia and abnormal liver
function tests. •
