Abstract
Aminoglycosides are known for their ototoxic effect on inner ear. Ototoxicity is manifested clinically by hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness. By the time the patients' start complaint irreversible damage of the inner ear is settled. OAEs provide accurate assessment of inner ear conditi0Il.S in many disorders including ototoxicity.
Reports were showing a prota--ti.ve effect of salicylates when given in low doses against aminoglycosides - induced ototoxicity in animals. This later investigation has never been tested in humans.
The present work investigates the protective effect of salicylates against aminoglycosides -induced ototoxicity in-patients using aminoglycosides for various infection disorder.
