Eman Mohamed Salah Ahmed;
Abstract
Psoriasis is one of the commen dermatological diseases that affect a great percentage of the population. It
is an in.flammatory, proliferative disease of the skin and characterized by sharply demarcated dull red plaques.
Treatment selection is influenced by the patient's age, sex, occupation, ability to comply with the treatment. If less than 20% of body surface area is affected, treatment starts with topical measures such as topical corticosteroid, Tar, Zinc Oxide, Salicylic acid ointment and emollient, but in severe cases, systemic therapy is used such as PUVA, UVB, NB-UVB, methotrexate, retinoid and other.
In this thesis, introduction to psoriasis, ultraviolet radiation, NB-UVB and PUVA photo-chemotherapy were reviewed. Twenty patients with chronic plaque psoriasis were included in this study.
The aim of the present work was to compare the therapeutic effects of NB-UVB and PUVA photochemo therapy on chronic plaque psoriasis.
Prior to initiation of the treatment, patients phototested to determine the MED for NB-UVB and MPD for PUVA before starting phototherapy.
