'Yaluation or Intrathecal orohine for pain relier and the early Extubation after open heart Surgery

OLA Mohy Eldeen Zanaty Ahmed;

Abstract

Anaesthesia for cardiac surgery presents many challenges to the anaesthetist, one of the most important challenges isthe control of postoperative pain. Pain relief is necessary not only for the patient comfort, but also to ensure adequate respiration. Aggressive control of pain during the immediate postoperative period after cardiac surgery with early extubation may decre,ase morbidity and mortality, also decreases expensive perioperative care of cardiac surgery patients by using a postoperative recovery area rather than ICU.

Numerous methods have been tried for pain control after cardiac surgery, the introduction of intrathecal and epidural opioids after the discovery of opioid receptors in the substantia gelatinosa of the spinal cord, marks one of the most important breakthroughs in pain management in the last two decades. Profound antinociception is obtained with doses much smaller than that would be required if administrated systemically.

The aim of this work was to study the effect of intrathecal morphine on postoperative pain control and time of extubation after open heart surgery.
