Studies on the Prevalent Surgical Infected Lesions in Some Farm Animals

Abstract


The surgical infected lesions, their clinicopathological features, causative agents and susceptibility to chemotherapeutic agents were studied.

The total number of examined animals was 3565 (2050 bovine, 1015 equine and 500 goats). Out of them 348 (9.76%) were suffered from various forms of surgical infected lesions. The percentage of surgical infected lesions was (9.85%) in equine, (9.76%) in bovine and (9.60%) in goats. Among solipeds, it constituted (11.03%) in horses, (8.30%) in donkeys and (8%) in mules. Whereas, in bovine, it constituted (12.43%) for cattle and (4%) for buffaloes.

The surgical infected lesions in bovine head were encountered in 11 animals (10 cows and one buffalo.) as follows: abscesses, granuloma, cyst and fistula. They were located in the retropharyngeal, fascial, parotid and mandibular regions. Infected buccal cavity and tongue accompanied with suppurative lesions were also seen.
