A STUDYOF THE EFFECT OF UNILATERAL VASECTOMY OR VASOLIGATION ON THE TESTIS AND EPIDIDYMIS IN ADULT ALBINO RAT

Abstract


Vasectomy and vasoligation become widely used as a mean of
male contraception. Owing to their increasing use, many investigations
have been perfo,rmed to study the adverse effects on the male

reproductive tracti; • The aim of the present work is to detect the. histological changes which may occur in the testis and epididymis of both sides •following unilateral vasoligation or unilateral vasectomy without
ligation.


Fourty-five adult male albino rats were divided into three groups according to the type of the preformed operation. Group I consisted of 15 rats useJ as control. Group II consisted of 15 rats that were subjected to unilateral vasectomy without ligation. Group III consisted of 15 rats that were subjectl!d to \Jnilateral vasoligation.In each group the animals were sacrificed at :interv lof two weeks, one month and two months post
. operative. Histological examination of 1:he testes and epididymes of both

sides of all animals was done using the light microscope. The diameter of the seminiferous tubules and that of th(' epididymal ducts was measured
using the image analyzer computer syster!L
