MEDICAL AND PSYCHOSOCIAL EVALUATION OF EGYPTIAN CHILDREN SCHOOL UNDERACHIEVERS AMONG

Abstract


This study was undertaken to investigate the possible factors that may lead to underachievement among primary school children. A sample of 100 children their aged between 10-12 years old, was choosen. This was performed through a case, control study. Children having I.Q. less than 80 on (WISC), and any apparent neurological disorder, were excluded.

Medical, psychological and social evaluation through special tests stool, urine, Hb% analysis were also done. The study revealed that there was a significant association between scholastic attainment and socioeconomic status, I.Q. family size, birth order,
personality (as self concept, internal locus of control, I
absence of neurotic symptoms), personal and social /
adjustment, and anxiety. But there was no significant ',
association, between scholastic attainment and r
depression, anthropometric measurements, urine, stool
findings and Hb%. The frequency of the diseases were \, common in underachievers than achievers, and the most common were: vision problems, and otitis media. The recommendations were included.
