MICROBIOLOGICAL STUDIES ON AMINOGLYCOSIDE RESISTANCE AMONG DIFFERENT BAC'l'ERIAL ISOLATES

Ramadan Ahmed AL-Domani,;

Abstract

In the present work, a total of 262 bacterial isolates werrecoverd from different clinical specimens collected from patients attending different clinics of Tanta University Hospitals. Standard biochemical identification revealed that the recoverd isolates included Staphylococcus aureus (42, isolates), Escherichia coli (113 isolates) Klebsiella Pneumoniae (42 isolates) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (65 isolates). These isolates were examined for their susceptibility to different aminoglycosides namely streptomycin, neomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin, tobramycin and amikadn. Higher incidences of resistance to the old generations of aminoglycosides (streptomycin, neomycin and kanamycin) was observed among all the tested isolates. In contrast, the relatively newer generations of aminoglycosides (gentamicin, tobramycin and amikacin) showed markedly lower incidences of resistance.
