Abstract

The present investigation was conducted in order to evaluate the effects of using the nickel titanium profile
0.04 rotary system, the hand driven nickel titanium k file and the hand driven stainless steel k-flex file on the preparation of moderately curved root canals. Forty five human molars with root canals exhibiting curvatures between twenty and thirty five degrees according to Schnieder's method were selected and divided into three equal groups, and prepared by one of the tested file systems.

The files used in this study were compared for their ability to maintain canal curvature from the facial view, degree of apical transportation from both the facial and proximal views, time of the preparation and cleanliness of the canal walls.

The maintenance of canal curvature as well as the degree of apical transportation was assessed through comparing pre- and post-instrumentation radiographs.
