Abstract


The aim of this work was t'o study the relation ship of
GERD and larynx.

This study included 100 patients suffering from GERD who where initially selected by the presence of suspected GERD symptoms and then documented to have GERD endoscopically, and acoustics and aerodynamics measu es.

All cases (ENT group 50 patients, and GIT group 50 patients) were subjected to the following: -
1- Complete history and examination.
2- Visual documentation by (laryngeal and upper GIT)
endoscopies.
3- Auditory documentation of patients' voices for APA
assessment.
4- Acoustics and aerodynamics measures of patient's
voices.

Few cases were done 24-hour double probe catheter, which is most sensitive test for diagnosis GERD related otolaryngologic disorders. But the procedure is expensive, invasive and uncomfortable to patients and can lead to false-positive or false-negative results; In addition, insurance coverage for ,the evaluation may be problematic

The results were analyzed and the following conclusion was reached :

1-High incidence of atypical symptoms in patients ofENT group; change of voice 82% (42 out of 50), frequent throat clearing 58% (29 out of 50), and foreign body sensation 44 % (22 out of 50).
