Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3 in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Cancer Prostate

Abstract


This study was performed on fourteen apparently healthy individuals (Group I) and on sixty patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) who were subjected to ORE that proves prostate enlargement, classified according to their PAP and total PSA level into:

1- Patients who had normal PSA and /or PAP.

2- Patients who had elevated PSA and /or PAP.


Patient. groups were subjected to and classified according to:



• Transrectal ultrasonographic (TRUS)

Histopathologic diagnosis into two groups:

and/or



o Thirty five Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia

(Group II).

o Twenty five Patients with cancer prostate (Group III).



Those benign and malignant groups were also classified according to their:

1- Prostatic acid phosphatase levelinto:


o Benign group (28 patients) (Figure 5):


Nineteen Patients (68%) with PAP 5 1.88 u/L; (Group Ila).
Nine Patients (32%) with PAP >1.88 u/L;

(Group lib).
