Abstract
The present work aims to study the influence of benzo[a]pyrene on the pregnant rats and their fetuses. The experiment studies the effect of benzo[a]pyrene on the development of fetuses in different periods of gestation and with diferrent doses. Morphological, skeletal and cartilage anomalies will be studied and record the malformations in the fetuses of the treated females. Histological changes of liver of pregnant rats and their fetuses; chromosomal aberrations and DNA alterations will be examined. The obtained results showed decrease of placentas and body weight gains of pregnant rats. Fetal growth retardation represented by the reduction of fetal body weights and length. Resorption of fetuses and abortion percentage was significantly increased as compared to the control group. Incomplete ossifications of skeletal system was observed in treated groups. Histological examinations in livers of mothers and their fetuses revealed that dilated and congestion in central veins and interstitial hemorrhage in liver tissue. Benzo(a)pyrene fragmented DNA and produces gene mutations , (structural and numerical chromosomal aberrations)
