Evaluation and treatment Talus Fractures
Ahmed Ezz Al-regal Aly;
Abstract
The talus is the connecting link between the foot and bones of the leg through its contribution in the ankle joint It consists of body", neck and head.
The problems associated with talar fractures involve the loss of
circulation to the body of the talus with delayed revascularisation leading to avascular necrosis and future subchondral collapse. Hence, being a major determinant in the approaches of treatment
Fractures of the talus usually result from extreme non-physiologic
forces, mainly vertical compression in association with pronation and supination, addingly ending by its fracture.
(A) Fractures of the talar body
Fractures of the body of the talus account for 15-20 % of all talar injuries. They are classified into five groups:-
•Group I: includes osteochondral fractures.
•Group II: shearing fractures.
•Group III: posterior process fractures of both medial and lateral tubercles.
•Group IV: Fractures of the lateral process.
•Group V: Crush and compression injuries of the talar body.
Group I Transchondral fracture of the talus.
Are further classified according to the degree of displacement:-
Stage I:- This represents a small area of compression of subchondral bone, causing microscopic damage to the bony trabeculae. No damage may be evident on superficial examination of the talus.
