ENDOSCOIPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHY VERSUS I NDOSCOIPIC ULTRASONOGRAPHY IN DIAGNOSIS OF I'ANCREATICO-BILIARY DlSORDERS

Abstract


Twenty patients with suspected pancreatico-biliary disease were emolled in this study. It included II males and 9 females. Their age ranged between 16-65 years with a mean of 48.2 ± 14.6 years.
All patients were subjected to clinical examination, biochemical evaluation and four imaging modalities namely, conventional transabdominal ultrasonography, computerized tomography (CT), endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
The main presenting symptoms were jaundice in 50% of cases, upper abdominal pain in 30% , pruritus in I 0% and fever with or without upper abdominal pains in I 0% of cases.
Serum bilirubin ranged between 0.9- 33.0 mg% with a mean of 11.8

±9.2 mg% . ALT ranged belween 22-I91 IU/ml. ( normal up lo 45

IU/ml), with a mean of 71.9 ± 38.7 IU/ml. Alkaline phosphatase activity ranged between 87-7I8 IU/ml. ( normal up to 90 IU/ml) with a mean value of204 ± 151.2 IU/ml.
