Abstract

The ecosystem of mosquito larval breeding places was investigated for one year in two localities in Faiyum with different breeding places namely: seepage, irrigation and drainage water in El-Nazla and Tersa villages. Mosquito species were identified of which, An. sergentii , An. multicolor, An. Pharoensis, Cx. pipiens , Cx. perexiguus, Cx. pusillus, Cx. antennatus, Ae. Caspius and Ur. unguiculata. The biological characteristics of the survey larval breeding places as represented with algal distribution were detennined. Eight algal genera were detennined. in both localities: Synedera, Oedogonium, Chlamydomonas, Nitzschia, Navicula, Closterium, Anabaena and Oscillatoria. The chemical composition of the different types of breeding habitats was detected. Occurrence of different mosquito species were analyzed in relation to the conditions and characteristics of the breeding water. Densities of An. Sergentii larvae had significantly direct relationships (P< 0.05) with tl1e fmma and flora of the breeding places. Also An. Pharoensis has a significant direct relationship witl1 certain factors in the water as sodium, phosphoms, calcium and carbonate.
