Comparison between the use of Dartos flap vs spongioplasty as a second layer in TIP urethroplasty for distal hypospadius
Hany Emad Mohamed El Hady;
Abstract
Hypospadias is a congenital abnormality of the penis and the urethra. Its incidence rate is reported to be about 1 in 300 male live births. In hypospadias, the distal urethra does not develop normally, and the urethral meatus lies somewhere along the ventral surface of the penis between the glans and the perineum. Surgical treatment is necessary, and more than 300 operationtechniques have been described for primary hypospadias.The objective of all of these methods is the formation of a functionally normal urethra and a cosmetically acceptable penis. Among these procedures to correct distal penile hypospadias there are the tubularized incised plate urethroplasty (TIP repair),Thiersch-Duplay, Mathieu’s repair, Mustarde, and MAGPI.
The Snodgrass technique and its modifications have become the treatment of choice for all types of hypospadias (Snodgrass 1994)(Snodgrass and Lorenzo, 2002). The Snodgrass technique, or tubularized incised plate (TIP) urethroplasty, is a single-stage, simple surgical technique with goodcosmetic results and a low complication rate(Snodgrass, 1994).
