Abstract

itiligo is an acquired, non-contagious pigmentary disease resulting from the loss of melanocytes from skin, hair and mucous membranes. It causes selective destruction of functioning melanocytes. It is the most common pigmentary disorder. It affects more than 0.5–1% of the population worldwide leading to devastating psychological and social problem. It affects all people with no predilection in gender, race, or skin type. It affects all ages, but in more than half of cases it occurs before the age of 20 years.
The pathogenesis of vitiligo is still obscure and multiple theories are suggested in the etiopathgenesis of vitiligo including autoimmune cytotoxic T cells, oxidant-antioxidant imbalance, genetic factors, neural mechanisms or multifactorial mechanisms.
In this study, we aimed to evaluate the role of TAS and IL-6 in vitiligo patients, correlate between both markers in active, stable vitiligo patients, in relation to healthy controls. It was a case control study which was carried out on 50 subjects: 15 patients with active vitiligo, 10 patients with stable vitiligo and 25 age and sex matched healthy controls. All patients were selected from the dermatology outpatient clinic of vitiligo, Ain-Shams University Hospitals. Five ml of whole blood were collected in plane tube from all participants. Each sample was allowed to be clotted then centrifuged at 4000 rpm for 10
